6:44pm Monday 8th October 2007 in Guiseley By Rachel O'Connor
Guiseley signed off from league action with a vital three points to lift them up to second place in the UniBond Premier Division table.
With FA Cup and FA Trophy games set to occupy them over the next couple of weeks manager Terry Dolan said a win was vital to ensure ground was not lost.
His side duly delivered in what was their third meeting in a week against Prescot Cables after they needed a re-play to edge past them in the FA Cup.
Leading scorer James Hanson got the winner with a strike into the top corner from 15 yards early in the second-half but he was only in the starting line-up after Marc Smith pulled a muscle in his side in the warm up.
As in the two previous meetings Guiseley were guilty of missing chances. Rob Pell and Mark Bett both went close but it was midfielder Dominic Krief who wasted the best opportunity, missing from just two yards.
Dolan was particularly impressed with his back three of Danny Ellis, Simon Sturdy and Aaron Wilford.
He said: "The pleasing thing is that we are creating enough chances, we just need to be converting more of them. That was a massive three points for us because if things go well in the cup ties we might not have a league game for the next four or five Saturdays."
