6:24pm Monday 1st October 2007 in Guiseley By Rachel O'Connor
Guiseley have to do it all again on Tuesday night at Nethermoor after drawing this bruising FA Cup encounter against a physical Prescot Cables side at Valerie Park.
On a pitch that looked perfect for good football both sides had difficulty maintaining their balance which adding to the unpredictable bounce of the ball produced a game of few chances and very few moments of fluid football.
John Swift came closest for Guiseley in a first- half the visitors dominated when his powerful shot from 20 yards cannoned of a post with Ritchie Mottram clawing at fresh air.
Steve Dickinson then collected a well-taken free- kick at the second attempt as the home side exerted some pressure before the break and Lee Smithy put in a timely intervention to deny Dominic Krief.
Anthony Bowden and Darren Buyers went into referee Stewards' notebook as the home side's uncompromising style looked to stop Guiseley getting into their stride.
Seven minutes into the second period Mark Bett came on for James Hanson and immediately tested the 'keeper with a low shot. Scott Murphy became the third home player to be booked with Guiseley being afforded very little protection by the man in the middle.
Prescot suffered a major blow when Mottram had to go off having limped for most of the match and replacement Peter Collis did well to tip a goalbound shot from Bett round the post but then watched helplessly as Richard Dunning's lob caught him in no-mans land, only to see the ball bounce on top of the bar.
Swift then decided to repeat his near miss in the first-half but this time his dipping, swerving volley found the target leaving Collis with no chance.
James Dever then delivered the second top quality strike of the game as Dickinson got a hand to his unstoppable shot into the top corner. Eammon Price then had a good opportunity with a free header. Krief finally shook off the defenders but pulled his shot wide.
With a last throw of the dice Rob Pell entered the fray and put in two shots just past the upright and his glancing header with virtually the last act of the match missed the target by the thickness of a coat of paint so its all back to Nethermoor on Tuesday to see who goes on to entertain Vauxhall Motors in the third qualifying round on October 13th.
