THERE was yet more frustration for the area’s semi-professional sides last night as three games were lost to the weather after Saturday’s total white-out due to the sub-zero temperatures brought in by the polar vortex.

While the milder weather that swept in just as suddenly as the 'Beast from the East' had during the previous week has been welcome to most people, it has caused problems for the groundstaff at clubs as it has led to waterlogged pitches.

Guiseley were due to host Barrow in the Vanarama National League but there was a lot of standing water on the Nethermoor playing surface when a morning pitch inspection took place.

The Lions, who are still under the interim stewardship of Sean St Ledger, will make a fourth attempt to get the fixture against the Bluebirds played on Tuesday, April 17.

The game has already suffered postponements for a frozen pitch in January, for snow a week yesterday and a waterlogged pitch last night.

St Ledger will be hoping that his players can re-focus for the weekend’s trip to Bromley and the following Saturday’s home derby against FC Halifax Town as they have been kicking their heels since the 4-0 defeat at new leaders Sutton United on the final Saturday of last month.

Liversedge and Thackley both had games shelved last night in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Sedge were due to make the short journey into Leeds to take on Garforth Town, but a lunch-time inspection ended any hope of the game being played.

Like Guiseley, it was a third consecutive postponement and it added to Sedge's fixture congestion.

Jonathan Rimmington’s men still face nine games this month inside a 21- day period, seven of which are away from home.

Five of those road trips are on the bounce from next Monday through to Wednesday, March 21.

The Dennyboys have been similarly sidelined due to the recent inclement weather, and their trip to Barton Town was also a third call off on the spin.

Thackley have a dozen games remaining this season and, like Sedge, the majority are away fixtures.

Just three of those 12 games are at Dennyfield.
