GUISELEY'S players have been urged to be more ruthless and cut out their silly mistakes as they prepare for the live TV clash at Halifax on Saturday lunchtime.

Adam Lockwood spelt out the message after seeing his side record their first win of the season against Torquay.

Two goals in the closing minutes turned a potential defeat into a 3-2 victory, but the manager wasn't impressed.

He said: "I would like to say I am delighted to get off the mark in terms of wins, but I saw some things that really disappointed me. The whole match disappointed me really badly."

Although he was delighted with his team's character and attitude he felt that there were important lessons to learn.

"I would just like us to be a bit cleverer and smarter and when the tide turns in games," he said.

"We need to manage the game better and stem the flow. We were very very poor at that.

"There were individual mistakes and that disappoints me. People now have to take ownership and stop making them as it spreads across the team.

"I thought we made a mistake and somebody would make one straight after and at this level you get punished.

"I felt we deserved to concede two goals. That is why I want the lads to stem that on the field. We need to learn from that and improve our decision making.

"If you are not ruthless you are never in control. One thing you have to do is keep a level head and look at things logically.

"At times we are not going to play well. It is then about can we take more control and be more ruthless. We will take a lot of learning from the Torquay game."

Lockwood was delighted with the threat his side poised from set pieces and he will be hoping they can continue that into a Bank Holiday programme which sees them follow the trip to Halifax with a testing home game against Hartlepool.

That match will see them come up against their top scorer from last season, Jake Cassidy.
