Vanarama National League: Guiseley 0 Tranmere Rovers 0

GUISELEY bounced back well from Saturday’s heavy loss at leaders Aldershot Town to earn a valuable and deserved point from a goalless draw against Tranmere Rovers.

The Lions had suffered their biggest defeat since their promotion to England’s fifth division at the weekend when they went down 6-0.

But in their third season at non-league football'stop table, Guiseley have learned along the way and shut Tranmere out last night.

Lions boss Adam Lockwood made several changes, and there was a debut for Joe Green in goal and a first start for Kayode Odejayi, while Kevan Hurst and Frank Mulhearn were rested.

They were on the bench with Jonny Maxted, who had been between the sticks at the Ebb Stadium on Saturday.

It was a good start for Guiseley, and Rovers keeper Scott Davies was soon put to work by Reece Thompson as the home side remained solid but chances were few and far between.

Alex Purver had a shot blocked but Rovers could, and possibly should, have been in front in the 35th minute when Andy Cook failed to convert from close range.

That opening gave Tranmere hope, and they ended the first half strongly.

Green made a good save to deny Cook soon after the break but the Lions also had a good chance, with Thompson and Odejayi combining, only for the latter to direct his header right at Davies.

Tranmere’s former Guiseley loanee Oliver Norburn forced Green into another fine save much later and, although there were some nervy moments in the last ten minutes, the home side were delighted to post a clean sheet and bank a point, against one of the division’s promotion favourites.
