Pre-season friendly: Guiseley 1 Leeds United 5

LEEDS United’s new head coach Thomas Christiansen was very happy with the fitness of his squad as the whites strolled to victory at Nethermoor.

Adam Lockwood’s side, who only escaped relegation from the Vanarama National League on the last day of last season, should be no match for a squad of players hoping to push for promotion back into the Premier League but the two clubs enjoyed a productive pre-season friendly.

Lockwood said: “It was a good work-out against quality opposition, and that’s the plan.

“Hopefully they got a good work-out as well, so it was good for both clubs.

"I was disappointed with their goals, and I don’t like to lose any game, but it’s all about working towards the start of our season.

“Everyone who came to the ground has had a good experience and its all about building relationships between the clubs, and it was a big crowd for us.

"I hope some of the Leeds fans will know what we’re about now and come and watch us if they can’t get to away games.

“From our point of view it was a good game because we got what we needed. I’ve seen a few things that I like but a few things that I didn’t.

"That’s the whole idea, and the fact that it was a hot day for the guys always helps in terms of fitness.

"There has been a lot of preparation over the summer and, after a lot of intense work since they came back for training, the lads are in good condition - so they should be. It’s their job.”

Leeds made the perfect start by breaking the deadlock in the first minute.

Stuart Dallas netted a deft finish, and he doubled the visitors’ lead midway through the first half when he converted Luke Ayling’s low cross.

The Lions pulled a goal back just before the half-hour through Kevan Hurst, but he was listed on the team-sheet as A Trialist, before the whites regained their two-goal lead through Marcus Antonsson.

Lee Erwin bagged a second-half brace, netting a low shot just before the hour and slotting in after Souleymane Doukara’s penultimate-minute shot was parried by Joe Green, whose namesake Rob had been keeping at the other end when Hurst netted.

Lockwood added: "There were trialists named, some of which were familiar faces, but all I can say is please be patient regarding confirmation of signings. A lot is going on behind the scenes.”
