FORMER North Ferriby United striker Reece Thompson is set to join Guiseley AFC after the two clubs reached an agreement for the 23-year-old.

Thompson signs from National League North side United, who were relegated after defeat to Barrow in April.

But Thompson – whose opener against Barrow was not enough to keep Ferriby up – will play again in the National League top flight after agreeing to join the Lions.

That strike was one of 12 he netted after making 38 appearances for North Ferriby in 2016/17.

Thompson, whose transfer fee will be decided by either compensation or an FA tribunal, made one appearance from the bench for Lincoln City before joining Retford United after the 2011/12 season.

He scored 32 goals in 18 games, a club record, while at Retford's under-19s system, before he went on to finish the 2012-13 campaign with 14 goals in 20 first-team appearances.

The forward improved his record the following season, netting 39 times for Retford before scoring 15 with Frickley in 2014/15.

Thompson turned down a new deal at Frickley to move to League Two side York City, where the striker tallied three goals in two seasons at Bootham Crescent.
