ADAM Lockwood has warned his players to be prepared to be disappointed as Guiseley head towards the busy festive season.

The Guiseley manager dipped into his squad and made a couple of changes for last Saturday’s 1-0 FA Trophy win at Chorley which has earned them a second round tie at Nuneaton Town on January 14.

And he was delighted with the response of men like goalscorer Michael Rankine, midfield man James Wesolowski and new signing Elliot Green.

With his team facing four crucial National League games before then - at Working on Saturday, home and away tussles with promotion-chasing Lincoln City and a home clash with Maidstone United - Lockwood has stressed the importance of his squad.

“I want to bring people who want to do well for us and do well for the squad. One things for sure I will disappoint people through the season,” said Lockwood. “It’s tough, the toughest bit for me, but I want them to give me a dilemma and a selection problem. That is what I want.”

Lockwood has confidence in the squad he has assembled. That was clear at Chorley and he said: “I made a few changes and I wouldn’t make them if it would weaken the side. I banged on about the squad and how we worked together and it has come to fruition.

“Ranks (Michael Rankine) has been very disappointed at being out of the side, but when it’s his time he comes up and does well for himself and the group.”

New centre back Green, who was pitched into battle just days after his move from Vancouver Whitecaps, also earned praise for his debut performance.

“Elliot Green came into the side having not played much football and not much English football too. I thought he was outstanding as well,” said Lockwood who brought Green in to cover the loss through injury of Rob Atkinson.

The boss added: “James Wesolowski has been out and been a bit unfortunate. He came in as if he has not been away. I feel there were a lot of positives in our performance and we may have broken the hoodoo away from home too.”
