Guiseley clash with derby rivals Halifax for the fourth time this season on Saturday with boss Mark Bower warning: “They’re the form team in the division.”

The Lions ended a run of three successive defeats with an impressive 2-0 home win over Bromley last weekend as they gear up for the trip to The Shay.

Halifax dumped Guiseley out of the FA Cup in October and they have won two games on the spin under caretaker boss Jim Harvey.

The vastly-experienced Northern Irishman has presided over impressive wins against Gateshead and Dover, scoring four goals in both matches.

But the Shaymen are still second bottom in the National League and victory for Guiseley this weekend would seal a league double over this West Yorkshire neighbours.

Bower said: “I think we saw in the FA Cup games that they had certainly improved and brought some good players in.

“Obviously the balance had not been quite right since those two games against us.

“But Jim Harvey is an experienced campaigner and has gone in there and got two great wins for them, scoring eight goals against two very good teams.

“Dover are a top side at this level but you can’t read too much into where teams are in the league.

“Their form is more of a guide of what you’re going to come up against.

“At the minute, Halifax are one of the form sides in the league and we’ve got to approach this weekend as we did the Bromley game.

“If we do that, we’ve got a chance of going there and getting a result. I’ve got every confidence that we can do.”

Oliver Norburn spectacularly found the top corner from 25 yards to put the Lions ahead just before half-time against Bromley.

They sealed the win with Anthony Dudley slid the ball home late on, much to the delight of Bower.

The Lions boss added: “Since we were promoted, I think Saturday was our best and most complete all-round performance.

“I thought we were the best team from start to finish and 2-0 probably flattered them a little bit.

“We had some great chances in the second half to finish the game earlier than we did and from one to eleven we performed really well.

“It’s pleasing as well because we’ve got a few players out and we’ve been on a little bit of a bad run, although we have played against three of the best sides in the league.

“I’m really pleased and the only criticism was that we didn’t finish things off earlier.”

On Norburn’s spectacular strike, Bower said: “He hit a great shot just beforehand that crashed off the underside of the bar.

“He’s got that in his game and we said to the players before the game ‘shoot from distance’.

“When it’s wet and windy, the ball can fly around and it went in the top corner for him.

“I think he’s been good for us since he came to the club. He’s made a few sacrifices to come here and it’s really credit to him that he’s done what he’s done.

“He deserved his goal and I thought he was good in the second half.

Bower has secured the services of on-loan Bury striker Dudley until the New Year.

Bower said: “He looked very good for us and deserved his goal against Bromley.”
