DANNY Boshell admitted that Guiseley’s 1-1 draw with Southport felt like a defeat on Tuesday night.

But the man whose slip allowed Southport’s Louis Almond to snatch a late equaliser says there are still a lot of positives for the Lions to feast on.

Their unbeaten National League run now stands at six games and the player-assistant manager believes they should be looking forward to Saturday’s away clash at Braintree.

The player-assistant manager said: "Six without a defeat it is good going in this league and we will go to Braintree on Saturday and see if we can get a result there.

“We have had them watched a couple of times and like many teams in this league they are physical side and quite direct. We will look at the reports, have a training session on Thursday, and go from there.”

Boshell is pleased with the progress his side are making but feels they must learn to close games out.

Reflecting on the Southport game he admitted: “Their goal at the end came from our corner, a mistake from myself, and its in the top corner of our net.

“When you are winning 1-0 and they score so late on it feels like a defeat. We dropped two points without a doubt. Even with a one goal lead we should have been out of sight with the chances we had and the chances we missed.

“It is something we have got to learn from. Every team is going to have a spell in a game and create a couple of chances. So you have got to get that second goal and put the game to bed.

“I thought our performance was good and though Southport had lots of pressure I didn’t feel they were going to score. Our shape was good and we were picking them off and had chances of our own.”

Guiseley, who gave a debut to attacking midfielder George Maris who is on loan from Barnsley, have a couple of injury worries ahead of the trip to fifth-placed Braintree.

Ben Parker, Gavin Rothery and Oli Johnson were all sidelined for the Southport match while goalscorer Liam Dickinson picked up a knock during the game.
