Mark Bower says Guiseley will go to Dover overflowing with confidence after their unbeaten run continued with a famous win over rivals AFC Halifax Town.

The Lions beat their West Yorkshire rivals 2-1 on Tuesday night in the first meeting between the sides at National League level.

The result came after last weekend’s 4-4 thriller at home to Woking and followed creditable draws at Chester and Torquay.

Bower’s men now face a long trek to the south coast on Saturday before hosting struggling Southport at Nethermoor in another midweek clash next Tuesday.

Bower said: “We will go down to Dover on Friday, like we did when we went to Torquay, and I think the preparations certainly helped us there to put in a good performance.

“We have had Dover watched on a couple of occasions and they are difficult opponents down there.

“They’re a big, strong physical unit who are well-organised but we’re four unbeaten now and we can take confidence from that.

“We’ll go down there with no pressure on us other than the pressure we put on ourselves to perform. Hopefully we can extend that run now.”

The win over Halifax ended a six-match winless run for the Lions and Bower added: “You feel like you’re banging your head against a brick wall at times when you have played well but not quite got what you deserved.

“We got the three points against Halifax through hard work, sticking to our jobs and working as a unit.”

CJ Hamilton fired Halifax ahead before Will Hatfield levelled the scores against his old club and Liam Dickinson fired home a late winner from the penalty spot.

Bower added: “Did we deserve to win it? I’m not sure, but it was much needed after the run we had been on.

“But it was a good, well-organised and hard-working performance.”

Bower could shuffle his pack ahead of three games in eight days, with the trip to Dover followed by the visit of Southport and long journey to Braintree next weekend.

He said: “It’s testing for us as a part-time club because we’re coming up against professional teams.

“But I’ve never really seen us struggle fitness-wise in any games. Maybe that extra bit of sharpness can tell but we’re on a good run so keep the games coming because it’s a good place to be.”

The Lions reported no major injury worries after the Halifax win.
