MARK Bower will continue to scour the market for the right calibre of player as Guiseley prepare for their latest pre-season friendly with Bradford Park Avenue.

The newly-promoted Lions beat a makeshift Bradford City side 2-1 on Tuesday night with two second-half goals from Adam Boyes.

The former Bantams defender is now targeting a third victory in a row following last weekend’s success at Brighouse Town.

Bower has taken a number of players on trial during pre-season and more new faces could appear at Park Avenue on Saturday – but while Lewis Guy will continue to be assessed, former Bantam Rory Boulding’s trial is over.

Bower said: “Lewis Guy showed some good touches on Tuesday against Bradford.

“He tired a bit towards the end, but he’s got a good work-rate and we will keep on having a look at him.

“I don’t think anything further will be happening with Rory now, though.

“We’ve got one or two irons in the fire with potentially one or two players coming in on Saturday against Park Avenue.

“We are speaking to others regarding permanent transfers, so we will keep on looking.”

Bolstering his strikeforce remains Bower’s priority and he added: “We’re short at the top end of the pitch and that has been evident so far.

“We are doing our best to try and strengthen in that area.

“We want players who are going to improve us and challenge the players in the squad already.

“They are difficult to find because the next step up from Guiseley is full-time league football and a lot of lads hold out for that.

“We won’t rush into anything because we want to make sure the right people come in; not just the right players but the right characters.

“We’ll certainly be doing everything we can to get the right quality of players in.”

Bower was left delighted with his side’s second-half display against his former club.

The former Bradford defender said: “In the first half we were off the pace, sloppy in possession and could have been punished once or twice more than we were.

“The second half was much better and we got two good goals and won the game, but there are certainly things to work on.”

Guiseley were promoted from the Conference North last season and Bower reckons Park Avenue have a decent chance of doing likewise this term.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash, the Lions boss added: “Park Avenue have strengthened well over the summer and could be right up there this season.

“It will be another good test for us and hopefully we can get another win.”
