GUISELEY manager Mark Bower is looking forward to springing a surprise on the Vanarama National League this season.

With the Football League fixtures released yesterday, Lions fans must patiently wait to the 3rd July to find out when trips to Tranmere and Grimsby will fall on the calendar.

And Bower believes his newly-promoted outfit will upset the apple cart amongst the bigger sides in the division.

Bower said: “We were a little bit up and down in terms of results towards the end when it looked like we were going to be in the play-offs.

“But when we played against the top teams in the games that had plenty riding on them, we stepped up and we produced results.

“I think we’re going to be a bit of an unknown quantity in this division, so we’ll try and surprise one or two people.

“I don’t think many people will know where Guiseley is, let alone what we’re going to be like.

“There will be a little bit less pressure on in that we’re not expecting to be challenging right at the top of the league.

“But we will have that quite confidence and belief that we can go and get some good results again when we play some of those big clubs and full-time clubs who’ve got some good players.

“We’re looking forward to it and it will be a challenge, but we certainly feel that we can raise a few eyebrows.

Guiseley come across many unfamiliar opposition throughout the campaign with the club facing many of their divisional rivals for the first time.

And Bower feels the momentum from promotion and the excitement of a ‘new adventure’ will help the side moving forward.

“Certainly the momentum we’ve got from this season, hopefully we can carry that through and maintain the good feeling with the confidence we got from the end of the campaign. That will stand us in good stead moving forward.

“We’ve been in the Conference North for five years, going to the same places week in and week out, and this will be a new adventure.”
