Guiseley 2, Boston United 0

GUISELEY exacted revenge over Boston with a win at Nethermoor that laid to rest their 5-1 mauling in last month's reverse fixture.

The victory also cemented the Lions' own place in the Vanarama Conference North play-off zone at the expense of their opponents.

The Pilgrims would have leapfrogged the hosts with a win as only goal difference had separated the sides.

But Mark Bower's men remain in fifth place and the Lions boss said: "It was enjoyable – not just because of what happened four weeks ago but because they have crept up on us in the table and now we have a three-point gap over one of our rivals."

Adam Boyes had the first chance for the home side, after being played through by strike partner Liam Dickinson, but fired over.

Brooksby netted the opener in the 20th minute, tapping in Boshell's square pass.

Dayle Southwell of Boston fired over from his first sight of goal but Guiseley defender Danny Hall got a good header to an Andy Holdsworth cross that Pilgrims keeper Sam Vince had to save.

Boyes went close again, against his former club, before the break.

Then after the interval, home keeper Steve Drench was tested by Southwell but the hosts doubled their lead before the hour mark when Vince fumbled Andy Holdsworth's free-kick and Boyes pounced.

Bower said: "Some people might ask why Danny Boshell passed to Wayne Brooksby for the first goal instead of shooting but I'm not bothered as long as they go in.

"And some say there was controversy about the second – but their own player has impeded the keeper and you could tell that from the reaction of their bench.

"It was an error and luckily enough we have capitalised on it, for once. We have had a lot of situations lately when things have bounced the wrong way or hit a defender.

"It was important though, that second goal, as I felt we were comfortable after that."
