Guiseley 2 Stockport County 0

Guiseley continued their late push for a play-off place in the Conference North with a comfortable home win over Stockport County.

The visitors were held up by traffic problems and the kick-off was twice delayed, finally getting underway at 8.15pm.

The Lions got the all-important opening goal when Jake Lawlor controlled the ball inside the area before drilling in a shot.

Guiseley’s Kevin Holsgrove had chances either side of the interval but the first was off target while the second brought a good save out of keeper Jan Osman.

Osman was beaten again, however, by Wayne Brooksby late in the second half, which ensured the Lions banked all three points ahead of the return clash at Edgeley Park on Saturday.

The victory lifted Mark Bower’s men back into the top ten and they are now just six points off the play-off zone with games in hand on many of their promotion rivals.
