West Yorkshire League Premier Division: Pool 1 Carlton Athletic 1

INJURY and unavailability left Pool having to make several changes to their team following their narrow cup win last week against Route One Rovers.

This was not the best game of football, and with the sides evenly matched, chances were few and far between in the first half.

The first opportunity fell to Carlton, with their forward striking a powerful shot which was well saved by Andy Doey, the Pool goalkeeper.

Doey was then at fault for Carlton's goal. The referee gave a controversial free kick just outside of the goal area in a very dangerous position.

Doey attempted to punch clear, but the ball dropped into his goalmouth. The defence failed to come to his aid and allowed Carlton to score from close range.

The second half saw Pool come out fighting, and they always looked the most likely to score. They duly did when a fine ball in from Robert Cross put the Carlton defence under pressure, Tom Fleming finishing the job with a cool finish.

Pool continued to produce some good approach play, but failed to find that elusive final pass or finish which would have given them a second goal.

Carlton nearly stole the game at the death, missing a great chance when they really should have scored. Overall, Pool shaded the contest though, and would have been disappointed not to come away with victory.

West Yorkshire League Alliance Division One: Hartshead Res 6 Pool Res 1

Having given several players to the first team, the reserves were dragged closer to the relegation zone with this heavy defeat on their long trip to Hartshead, with only a Will Johnson goal to show for their efforts.
