Knaresborough Celtic 0 Burley Trojans 4

Burley Trojans went into Saturday’s game away to Knaresborough Celtic Reserves off the back of a 4-1 home win over Hampsthwaite FC.

Burley were without last week's hat-trick hero Dan Henderson. so manager Tom Higman made changes to try to keep the run going and the goals flowing.

Chances came at both ends. Some fine saves from Trojans’ ‘keeper Guy Smith repelled Knaresborough and Simon Walker went close for the away side.

Birthday boy Dominic Grimes was on form and pulling the strings from the first minute to the last, and it seemed a matter of time before the inevitable breakthrough for Trojans.

They opened the scoring on the half hour mark as Walker nodded the ball down and swiftly slotted home past the oncoming Knaresborough ‘keeper. Trojans held firm and took their one goal lead into the break.

The second-half saw Knaresborough fired up and they had a good spell but Chris Wheeler, protecting the back four, gave the ball to Grimes who pinged a ball into a dangerous area which caused confusion at the back.

The ball fell to Walker, who took full advantage of the confusion by spotting the ‘keeper off his line and steadying himself, before lobbing the ball over the hapless stopper and into the goal.

Despite Knaresborough ringing the changes, it wasn’t long before Trojans had their third goal and it was one to savour.

It was a contender for goal of the season as Grimes' 30 yard ball was met on the half-volley by Danny Bryan. The ball flew over the 'keeper and struck the post before nestling into the back of the net.

Bryan wrapped up the points from the spot after tricky footwork from Patrick Bibby saw him taken down in the area. Bryan put the spot kick into the top left corner and Trojans went home with all three points.
