Leeds City 2 Pool 1

BOTTOM side Pool suffered another unlucky defeat at the hands of the West Yorkshire League Premier Division title chasers.

As has happened so often this season Pool put up a plucky display but finished pointless.

Pool weathered an early spell of pressure before settling into the game and making their presence felt.

They could easily have taken the lead as a hopeful, high ball from the right hit the crossbar before being cleared.

Both teams had chances in the, but neither could break the first-half deadlock.

Early in the second half Pool broke the deadlock. Matthew Bilney returning from injury, showing great sped onto a through ball, and placed a cool left-foot finish into the corner of the net.

Just as Pool were looking comfortable a City cross, hung in the air long enough to clear the keeper before dipping nicely onto the head of Joe Liddell at the far post for the equaliser.

City quickly took the lead when a good move up their left resulted in Mark Ferguson turning home a low cross.

The match continued to be end to end with both keepers being called upon to make saves.

Andy Doey made a couple of excellent blocks in the Pool goal, and the City keeper producing a couple of superb reflex saves.

Pool's determination seemed to have paid off with an equaliser ruled out for offside.

It was another example of things not going your way when you are down.

Pool remain at the foot of the table, but remain positive despite needing an exceptional run of results if they are to avoid the drop.

On Saturday, they have a break from the league as they entertain Route One Rovers from the West Riding County Amateur League in the Wharfedale Cup semi-final.
