Pool 2 Rawdon Old Boys 0

This was a rousing Wharfedale & District FA Cup tie with plenty of incident.

Pool started strongly and a fine header from Josh Waite struck the bar when he deserved better.

Rawdon Old Boys then showed exactly why they are flying high in the West Yorkshire League Division One, showing, determination, speed and ability worthy of their standing.

It took all Premier Division Pool could muster to keep them out, Andy Doey in goal making a couple of close-range blocks, then another couple of superb saves from equally fine shots.

Add to that a goal-line clearance from Jordan Wagstaff and the picture is complete. Pool were glad to see half-time, and came out much more composed in the second half.

Early in the half, Tom Smith emulated Waite by hitting the bar, and now it was the Old Boys keeper performing the heroics, pulling off several excellent saves.

The deadlock was eventually broken when Richard Bull took advantage of a goalmouth scramble to seize his chance and fire home from close range.

Waite then got his reward when his ball towards goal beat everyone, the Old Boys keeper unsighted by one of his own players.

Both teams continued to play good, end to end football, but the defences held strong and Pool held on to progress to the semi-final, when they will entertain Route One Rovers from the County Amateur League on January 20th.
