Otley 29 South Leicester 3

OTLEY moved a step closer to avoiding relegation from National Two North with a four-try win at Cross Green.

South Leicester arrived in Yorkshire with players missing in this rearranged match, but still put up a spirited first-half performance.

The opening quarter was a cagey affair with Otley again showing their dominance in the scrum.

Their persistence was rewarded when Nick Coupland sold a dummy to give Tom O’Donnell a clear path to the line.

The visitors only made it twice into Otley’s 22 in the first half.

Their only score in the first period was a Venus Corey penalty when Otley were caught offside.

In the second half, Otley took the game to Leicester with Tom Hodson putting Paul Petchey in at the corner 12 minutes in, Joe Rowntree extending the lead on the hour with a penalty when Leicester were penalised for not releasing.

The hosts were unforgiving and put the kick-off back on the South Leicester 22.

The visitors tried to get out of their half but were pushed back by the lively home side.

After creating pressure close to the line, Otley used their pack to bully the tiring defence.

After two consecutive scrums, Otley were awarded a penalty try and a Leicester player was yellow carded.

Coming straight back, Jack Liebster put Jack Mackie through with Rowntree adding the extras to round off a satisfying win.
