CLECKHEATON did not let their day go to waste yesterday, raising over £3,000 towards Breast Cancer Research.

Rugby chairman Neil Gillan said: "We had 13 tables at the ladies' lunch, which was attended by between 100 and 120, and there was also a raffle and a bucket collection.

"The event lasted from midday to 11pm and we raised £2,970 from all of that, and there was also £130 from a fund-raising page for Cancer Research which our head coach Thui Barnard set up."

Cleckheaton's North One East match at home to West Hartlepool was called off, despite a small army of people trying to clear the pitch of snow on Friday evening.

Gillan added: "For everyone that turned up, thank you for your efforts!

"We did all we could to get the pitch fit but mother nature has had the last word."

The game has been re-arranged for Saturday, March 17, and scrum half Jack Bickerdike and winger or full back James Wilson will now be available.

However, fly half Ronan Evans will be missing as he is going to Cardiff to watch Wales v France in the NatWest Six Nations.

Bradford Salem's Yorkshire Division One derby at North Ribblesdale is also set for March 17.

Ribb's fixture secretary Duncan Brown said: "The wind blew the snow off the pitch, but it was like concrete underneath.

"We also had the problem of drifting snow against the clubhouse, and then there was the car park and access roads."

Re-arranging Baildon's home derby against Old Otliensians in Yorkshire Division Three is more complicated, however.

The visitors' run to the RFU Junior Vase and league postponements has meant that they have no free Saturdays up to May 5, and that does not allow for a potential Twickenham final (they play their semi-final on March 31).

Baildon's player-coach Robbie Hill said: "We are probably looking at a midweek date in April to play Otliensians."

Also off on Saturday were Wharfedale v Sedgley Park and Otley v South Leicester in National League Two North, Bradford & Bingley v Percy Park in North One East, York v Keighley in Yorkshire Division One, Old Grovians v Old Crossleyans in Yorkshire Division Two and Wibsey v Ossett in Yorkshire Division Four Premier.

Wibsey's manager Steve Brooke said: "We could probably have called it off on Tuesday as there were four inches of snow at the top end of the pitch."

That derby will also be replayed on March 17, as will Bees v Percy Park and Grovians v Crocs, while York v Keighley is earmarked for May 5.
