National League Two North: Broadstreet 12 Otley 19

OTLEY duly completed the double over relegation-threatened Broadstreet but the Arctic conditions, strong wind and sleet made handling difficult and provided the opportunity for an upset.

However, the visitors played to their strengths, denying their opponents few scoring chances.

Skipper Stephen Depledge came into his own with five successful kicks as his side forced the home side into errors, taking the lead with a penalty on just nine minutes.

But a a high kick downfield then evaded the Otley cover, the chasing Andrew Solomon snapping up the ball to draw the remaining defender before handing to fellow centre Aaron Martin, fly half Lee Chapman converting to move the Coventry side 7-3 ahead.

The muddy ground ensured a steady forward battle, and it was Otley who held sway, drawing an error for Depledge to add a second penalty to leave his side just one point adrift at the break.

With an improvement in the weather on the resumption, the visitors were able to take control through their hard- working pack, but it was winger James Wood who struck on 59 minutes.

Tiring of his inaction, he drifted inside to join in, hanging on to a pass to charge through and scatter the defence to cross near the posts for Depledge to convert.

They eased the score along with a 75th-minute penalty, but the home forwards, for once giving Otley some pain in their line, eventually drove over, No 8 Luke Hibberd grounding.

There was, however, just time for Depledge to kick a fourth penalty, keeping Otley's run going (they have won five of their last six) and adding to the hosts' relegation fears.
