The Stacks Field faithful will have a local to cheer when Yorkshire open their RFU Under-20 County Championship programme on Sunday.

Leeds University student Ned Brown has been selected at centre for the white rose against Durham (2.15pm).

Brown has played a number of games for the Dalesmen this season and will be keen to impress.

Also flying the flag for the local clubs are Yarnbury’s Adam Malthouse, who has been picked in the second row, and Otley prop George Burkinshaw.

Both Yorkshire and Lancashire launch their bid for honours by taking on teams beaten in the first round of matches.

The Tykes, despite having two warm-up games cancelled due to the weather, have seven players from last season’s squad that reached the semi-finals, and go into the game in confident mood.

Durham’s opening game against north east neighbours Northumberland ended in a 62-5 defeat, so the visitors need a sharp im-provement to upset the formbook.

Lancashire open with a home game against Cumbria at Liverpool St Helens, and the red rose have another strong contingent to choose from.
