Hat-trick of hat-tricks for Old Grovian Hogg
Old Grovians 50, Mosborough 6 Old Grovians produced a performance full of invention and flair, built on a rock-solid platform provided by a dominant pack.
The opening score came on 12 minutes. Tim Dalton, who appears to be getting fitter and stronger by the week, picking up from No 8 and rumbling through would-be tacklers on his way to the line.
A successful Mosborough penalty made the score 7-3 before winger Dean Hogg crossed over for his first try of the match after some sharp work by fly-half Ben Brown kept the the ball alive.
The Old Grovians extended their lead to 14 with an Adam Weaving penalty before the inside centre instigated the move of the game. Weaving made an incisive break from midfield, cutting a line through the heart of the Mosborough defence before drawing the fullback and firing a flat pass out to the left-wing, allowing Hogg to score his second try and giving the home side a commanding 24-6 half-time lead.
This side is developing a ruthless streak about its play and any fears that the Old Grovians might take their foot off the gas in the second half were quickly dispelled within 60 seconds of the restart. The forwards led the way, winning the ball and then trundling up field before prop Dan Gullick poached a try from a yard out - his first of the campaign to securie a bonus point.
Confidence was clearly flowing through the team. Brown’s decision making from ten was flawless, ensuring the OGs remained on the front foot and Hogg was soon skirting over the tryline again, completing his hat-trick - already his third this season - after good interplay with scrum-half Joel Bradley.
Two more tries wrapped up the game for the Old Grovians as Hogg turned provider to give Bradley his first try at this level before flanker Harry Cody-Ohen scored with the final move of the match, ensuring the Old Grovians stay in touch with the early pace-setters at the the top of the table.
