Old Grovians 47 Castleford 22

OLD Grovians were quick out of the blocks in their top of Yorkshire Three battle at Elm Tree Farm.

Scott Dickson was on hand to collect an awkward off load from Anthony Griffin to score a try which Adam Weaving converted.

Third-placed Castleford weren’t going to take that lying down and within five minutes they responded with an unconverted try.

The response from Old Grovians was a fine try from Griffin – the first of three he was to score – with Weaving adding the extras for a 14-5 lead.

Griffin's second try came after Anthony Cadman's quick thinking and accurate pass enabled him to pierce the defence with Weaving converting.

Castleford’s No 8 demonstrated nimble footwork as he scored a converted try to reduce the deficit.

Old Grovians were determined not to sit on their 21-12 lead in the second half and scored an early try through Dickson from Griffin's bass. The conversion was landed by Nathan Barr.

The lead was further extended as Eric Roberts went over for a try which Barr converted for a 35-12 advantage.

Castleford were not giving up and their enterprise was rewarded when they intercepted a Grovians pass to score a try.

Griffin completed his hat-trick when he sidestepped two players to score before Castleford managed a pushover try.

Winger Aaron Magee rounded off the try scoring late in the game with Barr converting to seal a fine win in an entertaining game.
