Aireborough crushed by leaders

Aireborough 3
Hullensians 23
Hullensians are one of three sides on equal points at the top of Yorkshire Division 3, so a win was absolutely vital for them as they prepared to meet league leaders Moortown in a fortnight.
This was apparent straight from the off and they made their intentions clear with a pushover try after only four minutes of play with Aireborough yet to touch to the ball.
However, due credit must go to Aireborough who, after this early setback, really set their stall out and took the game to their opponents.
Whilst the final scoreline may suggest that the visitors were always in control this was not the case and those spectators who were foolhardy enough to endure 80 minutes of heavy, driving rain were fully entertained.
In the end it was Hullensians superior forwards who coped with the conditions the better and were able to gain, and maintain possession on a day when the backs were never going to see much of the ball.
The second try was a slightly bizarre effort with Aireborough maintaining a kick through had gone into touch. The defence stopped, the Hullensians' touch judge's flag stayed down and the Hull winger strode over unopposed to double his side's score.
With the wind at their backs Aireborough began the second-half briskly and fly-half Nick Holdsworth was able to slot a penalty as Hull infringed.
As conditions worsened Hull once again drove up the pitch and scored twice from short range forward drives. Their final points came in the 32nd minute with a penalty.
By this point spectators and players alike were soaked through and the final whistle saw a mass sprint from all involved towards the clubhouse.

23-3 is hardly crushed......not a great choice of adjective!
