Athletes travel to Paris Marathon
On Sunday three Otley AC members travelled to France to take part in the Paris Marathon. First home for Otley was Liam Dunne finishing 1,129th in a new personal best 2.59.46.
Josie Hodgetts not only set an amazing personal best by finishing 2,095th (and 44th female) in 3.11.00 she also beat the previous ladies' club record of 3.22.23.
Simon Anderson, despite a late injury scare in the last week of training, also finished in a remarkable 4,965th position in 3.28.56.
Closer to home, other club members took part in the Baildon Boundary Way Half Marathon over a multi-terrain course which was won by Pudsey and Bramley's Richard Pattinson in 1.21.19 followed close behind in second place by Otley second claim member Jamie Noon in 1.21.24.
Next Otley member was Howard Jeffrey (41st) in 1.37.29 followed by Hugh Pearson (46th) 1.38.33, Sarah McBrinn (82nd and eighth lady) 1.44.47, John Dade (151st)1.55.13 and David Cattanach (299th) 2.19.54.
On Saturday Zack Whitehead took part in the latest Leeds Hyde Park 5km time trial in difficult and almost arctic-feeling conditions. The time trials are held every Saturday morning at 9am and are free to enter.
Zack broke his personal best to finish in second place in a time of 17.20.
This coming Sunday there are a number of members running in the London Marathon.
Otley AC meets at 7.15pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Otley Rugby Club, Cross Green. The club caters for all standards of runners and coached sessions are available on Tuesday nights.
Otley AC Juniors now have training starting at 6.30pm on Wednesday nights at the Otley RUFC rugby pitches next to Stephen Smith's Garden Centre on Pool Road. For further details on the new Juniors Section contact Hugh on 07900 114473.
Skyrac Athletics Club
On a cold and blustery afternoon five athletes from Skyrac Athletic Club made the short journey to South Yorkshire to support their friends at Rotherham Harriers Open Track and Field Meeting at Herringthorpe Stadium.
In the U-20 women Skyrac hepthatlete Laura Griggs from Guiseley won the long jump, came third in the 400m and was fourth in the shot putt.
In the U-17 women Rebecca Harrison, who attends Menston St Mary's School, came first in the 3000m. Skyrac's U-15 girls' 800m athlete Harriet Middlebrough from Guiseley stepped up an age group to the U-17 women and ran a PB in the 1200m placing first with a fast time of 4min 01 sec. Harriet also ran in the U-17 200m placing fifth in another PB of 28.8 secs.
Danny Harrison from Menston St Mary's School placed fourth in theU-15 boys' javelin with a fine throw of 28m. Daniel also had a fine run in the 800m placing second.
Adam Brook had a busy day in placing second in the U-17 men's 200m (26.4 secs), second in the one lap event 400m in 62.4 secs and third in the javelin with a throw over 21m.
The next competition for the Skyrac athletes will be the Wakefield Open Meeting this Sunday.
The draw has taken place for the Northern Track and Field Cup and Skyrac will be travelling across to Blackpool to compete against any six of the following clubs: Bingley Harriers, Blackburn Harriers, Blackpool Wyre and Flyde, City of Manchester, City of York, Holmfirth Harriers, Lancaster and Morecombe/Kendal AAC, Leigh Harriers, Liverpool Harriers, Oldham and Royton, Pudsey and Bramley, Southport Waterloo and Trafford AC. This meeting takes place on Sunday, August 17.

The Pendle Race (the 4.5 mile one) only attracted Martin Farrar and Malcolm Coles last weekend with Martin finishing 74th out of 197 in 43.11.
The race was won by Andy Peace (32.41) who capitalised on many of the top flight runners being in Ireland for the Mourne Mountains British Championship counter although Victoria Wilkinson (Bingley) had a storming run to finish in 34.38 only just outside Carol Greenwood's record.
The Mourne race was specially created for the Championship and involved ten mountain top summits in just over 12 miles with 6200 feet of climb. The race winner was Rob Hope (P&B) who finished in 2.10.00 and won by just five seconds from Jethro Lennox (Shettleston) who had been leading until he fell in a pool of mud a few yards short of the line.
The brilliant Angela Mudge (Carnethy) finished 27th out of 192 finishers to finish in 2.27.12. Skyrac's Graham Breeze was pleased to finish seventh V60 in 3.31.54.
Ilkley Harriers
Blizzard conditions greeted athletes who travelled from Ilkley to Catterick for this year's men's 12 and women's six stage Northern Road Relays.
The men's team finished 31st and the women 16th.
Many small clubs don't have the strength in depth to enter two competitive teams in such an event. Both Ilkley teams can be proud of their results at this event.
In the Baildon Boundary Way cool but sunny conditions welcomed the runners and the race was won by Richard Pattinson of Pudsey & Bramley in 1.21.19. Ilkley's Jamie Hutchinson was 6th in 1.25.20.
He was followed by a good turnout of Harriers with 24th Jon Sinclair, 1.33.50 35th Richard Joel, 1.36.12, 48th Sally Malir 1.38.44, 76th Pete Shields 1.43.55 1st MV60, 165th Angela Srivastava 1.56.43, 183rd Sue Bickerdike 1.58.54, 193rd Keith Wood 2.00.29, 197th Brenda Ogden 2.00.52, 270th Mary Gibbons 2.13.57 and 271st Bernie Gibbons 2.13.59.
In the Lancaster Three Bridges 10K on Sunday Andrew Bennett ran a PB of 55.41.
In the Coniston 14 on Saturday Sean Murphy finished in 1hr 43 and Elaine Cossins in a PB of 1hour 50 minutes.
