Ben Rhydding 4 Urmston 2

Will Musgrave scored twice as Ben Rhydding recorded their third win of the season to go top of the North Men’s League Division One.

A penalty stroke early in the game gave Will Musgrave the chance to put his team deservedly ahead and they were able to keep Urmston on the back foot for most of the half but struggled to turn possession into goals.

Connor Dowley eventually stepped up to deal with a series of corners and put the third one into the top corner.

At 2-0 up Rhydding began to settle but Urmston were not going to roll over too easily and threw men forwards to put the pressure on.

Gaining a corner late in the half Urmston were delighted to get back in the game with a soft goal. Rhydding looked shaky for the last few minutes as Kieran Borrett was sin-binned for playing the ball over his head and was sorely missed for this key part of the match.

Rhydding came out fighting after half-time and Dave Exley, Connor Dowley and Tynan Cassidy were very impressive at the back, while Neil Sugden dominated the midfield .

Sugden controlled the press intelligently and this resulted in Rhydding repeatedly winning the ball back from Urmston.

It was Sugden who instigated the move that put Rhydding 3-1 up; taking a lovely ball in stride from Musgrave and picking Callum Hodson out in the D who selflessly slipped a pass to Callum Franks who bundled his shot it in off the post.

Giving a corner away was unfortunate and costly as Urmston converted again The last part of the battle saw Urmston become ragged and another penalty stroke awarded after the tireless George Sweeting broke through was buried by Musgrave.
