Scarborough 1 Old Otliensians Seconds 2

Despite the week of snow, Otliensians travelled over to Scarborough for this week’s game needing a win. The players did not let the waterlogged pitch and heavy sleet dampen their spirits and battled hard from the start. Facing the tough challenge of passing the ball through the puddles, Otliensians used this to their advantage and were able to build up some good play through the field with short passes. Maggie Simpson took the ball down the pitch finding top scorer Vix Lindley positioned perfectly to tap home Otliensians’ first goal. Otliensians were unlucky not to capitalise on other chances to score but were hindered by the weather.

Starting the second half as strongly as they had finished the first, it was an excellent solo attack from Simpson that found Lindley in almost the same position to again slot home. Scarborough fought hard and defenders Sue Wood, Yvonne Cowman and Hannah Feather worked tirelessly. Player of the match from both teams, Naomi Burdon, played outstandingly to keep Scarborough from scoring. However, with tired legs and a very wet kit, Otliensians were not able to prevent Scarborough from converting the goal they had worked hard for. Refusing to come away without the win Otliensians marked tight through the last few minutes and they were relieved to hear the final whistle, bringing a much-deserved and worked for win.

l On Saturday Otliensians are at home to City of York with a 12.30pm pushback.
