BEN Rhydding's girls did the club proud at the national under-16 indoor finals last weekend.

The North champions faced a strong Marlow side in their first game and took an early lead through Becky Hadfield, before conceding two quick goals on the break.

Some neat stickwork from Izzy Weir on the left created the space for Lucy Williams to equalise, before Marlow latched onto a loose ball to restore their lead .

Rhydding refused to give in and Hadfield calmly slotted home from a corner to earn a 3-3 draw.

Repton were Rhydding's next opponents, who demonstrated some of the skills which saw them go on and win the tournament.

Rhydding were unable to cope with a slick short corner routine and were soon 3-0 down.

Regrouping in the second half they had keeper Sophie Dale charging out to defend the corners, and she capably dealt with further threats from the drag flick.

Despite conceding two further goals, Rhydding created chances of their own, Williams, Weir and Kirsty McMillan all going close for the Ilkley side.

Ben Rhydding knew that two victories on the second day should see them progress to the semi-finals.

Taunton Vale were dispatched 3-0 with a clinical performance, Nisha Cant finding Hadfield in space to open the scoring, before Williams and McMillan exchanged crosses and deflections for two more.

Rachel Scott and Milly Fewlass-Jones marshalled the defence in the second half, and there was no way back for Taunton.

A win against their final opponents, Canterbury, would secure a place in the last four.

Ben Rhydding gave their all with Williams being denied by an outstanding keeper and the post.

Nisha Cant and Evie Malir, stalwarts in defence, tackled confidently and distributed well.

Canterbury took the lead through an early corner, and secured victory with a well-worked goal from open play.

Rhydding fought to the end, Malir calmly stepping in as kicking back and an extra outfield player, but it was not to be for Ben Rhydding.

A great weekend for the squad, who held their own against top opposition and learned a lot as the club's first colts squad to qualify for national finals.
