Investec Women's Conference North: Beeston 0 Ben Rhydding 2

BEN Rhydding Ladies had the toughest of tests in trying to repeat the previous week's 2-1 victory at Sutton Coldfield as they were at undefeated table-toppers Beeston.

But, buoyed by wearing their new kit, they matched their Nottingham hosts in the first half which was dominated by defences.

Beeston had chances to score via a number of short corners, while Rhydding's main attacking weapon were crosses fired into the D by Jo Ellis.

The half was coming to an end at 0-0, when, in the 30th minute, Laura Smith broke from halfway, leaving a swarm of Beeston players behind her, and linked up with Lucy Williams and Sarah Whitehead.

Williams, with some nifty skills around the edge of the D, passed to Whitehead, who smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Leading at the interval, the visitors were up for the second half, and they were soon 2-0 up via Beth Cordukes in the 47th minute.

Rhydding’s forwards had Beeston's defenders all flustered as they were penned in, and Cordukes punished a mishit, weaving at pace and scoring with a reverse shot from the edge of the D that flew over the top of the diving Beeston keeper.

The goal was the cue for a mass celebration but Beeston weren't done yet, twice narrowly missing a post and having a goal disallowed with four minutes left before the final whistle, with the win moving Rhydding up to fifth.

They have no game this weekend but are in action twice at home on the first weekend in November, fascing Belper in the league on the Saturday and Southampton-side Trojans in the third round of the national cup on Sunday.
