Despite Ben Rhydding under-12 girls having won all four of this season’s previous league sessions, the Yorkshire title is presented to the team that that tops the final session.

It meant they had to produce another big effort and once again they came up with the goods.

Five wins, nine goals for and none against reflected a job well done.

There were understandable nerves in the first game against Thirsk which Ben Rhydding won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Rebecca Hadfield.

For the remainder of the game Rhydding had to defend with goalkeeper Sophie Dale playing a key role.

Two good strikes from Anna Pateman settled the second match against Wakefield B, but it was the tackling of Nisha Cant, the passing of Kirsty McMillan and the selfless running of Hadfield that set up the openings for the forward.

Rhydding played a fired-up Doncaster side next, who set their team out to neutralise the Rhydding threat.

Excellent front marking by Eve Malir and Gabby Pope together with several pass interceptions by Rachel Scott, saw Rhydding seize the upper hand.

Pateman ran tirelessly up front and was rewarded with two more goals.

Rhydding continued their winning run with a 1-0 victory over York.

Hadfield found Evie Malir unmarked at the far post and she finished from close range.

The remainder of the match saw Rhydding create more chances, with Scott, Kirsty McMillan and Nisha Cant all impressing.

The win meant that Rhydding had won the title with their match even before they played their final match against Wakefield, who were chasing second place.

Rhydding were in no mood to be lenient, and played their best hockey of the day, passing the ball around the pitch and around the Wakefield defence.

Wakefield’s midfield were no match for Hadfield, McMillan, Malir and Gabby Pope, while Cant and Scott thwarted any Wakefield attack before they could get into the Rhydding D to shoot at Dale’s goal.

Pateman rounded off the day with a hat-trick to give Rhydd- ing a deserved 3-0.

Wakefield’s defeat meant Doncaster finished runners up.

Rhydding have won all five on the season’s Yorkshire League Division One sessions.

They have played a total of 25 matches, winning 20, drawing 5, losing 0 and have scored an impressive 40 goals while conceding only three.
