Hull 1 Ben Rhydding 3

Ben Rhydding took another step towards promotion to the North Men's Premier Division with a win at Hull.

It was an ugly and often brutal contest with Hull grappling for survival at the bottom of the table.

Rhydding struggled to settle into their game as they found the spongy pitch difficult.

They definitely missed the aerial release of pressure from Connor Dowley, out through injury.

Hull’s attempts to crash long balls through were not amounting to anything but when a loose pass from Ben Rhydding saw Hull counter attack, they took the lead.

Rhydding’s coach made some changes to the defensive shape and Danny Foster stepped into a new role.

Rhydding sharpened up and Kieran Borrett gained large amounts of ground despite having to ride many heavy challenges.

Eventually a corner was awarded and Tom Zillessen was on hand to finish on the post.

The equaliser allowed Rhydding to find better form and they began to play to their game plan more successfully.

The second half saw Rhydding’s half backs, Tynan Cassidy and Harry Bush find their touch and this made life easier for the forwards.

Borrett made some great tackles and afforded some protection to Josh Sykes who was taking a battering. Brave and tireless work from Alex White kept the ball pumping back into attack.

Hull continued to smash the ball at Rhydding players but as their fatigue became increasingly obvious, Rhydding began to take the game away from them.

Borrett and Will Musgrave released Bush who set up George Sweeting for a well-deserved goal.

Sweeting also scored the third goal after Alex White slipped the ball to him after drawing the keeper.

Hull became more and more ragged and when Cal Hodson broke through and floated the perfect pass to Alex White he was upended with a stick across the knees.

A penalty stroke was given but Musgrave uncharacteristically put it wide. The biggest test of the season awaits on Saturday when they play second placed Gateshead.
