Guiseley 1 Hednesford Town 1
The long-suffering Nethermoor faithful were left frustrated again as Guiseley threatened to storm to victory but ended up having to settle for a draw against a side they should have put to the sword.

A succession of managers have encountered the same problem - Guiseley are better on the road than they are at home. Perhaps their picturesque ground and the pleasant Yorkshire folk are far too welcoming.

Guiseley put a marker down when winger Jonathon Fernandez fired a right-foot shot over the bar in the third minute.

By the ninth minute they were in the lead thanks to a cool spot-kick from leading scorer James Hanson after he had been brought down by the visitors' keeper. The offender was not shown a card and he may not have been deemed the last man.

Midway through the half Hanson got a good header on target but was denied by the keeper.

Just before the half hour, a flowing move involving half of the Guiseley side ended with on loan Doncaster trainee Matthew Noble getting around the back of the Town defence but he neither crossed nor shot and the relieved keeper caught the ball.

From then on it was a patchy display from the home side and Hednesford enjoyed lots of possession.

Most of it was not threatening but the longer it was allowed the more desperate the fans became. Their worst fears were realised seven minutes from time when there was a scramble in Guiseley's area and Piotr Skiba was beaten by Ross Dyer, who stabbed the ball over the line leaving the hgome fans frustrated with the performance once more.

They could not understand the tinkering' that had gone on within the team with Nathan Hay dropped to the bench and his place at right-back taken by Danny Ellis who has proved himself one of the best centre-backs in the league.

Added to this left-back Matt Noble found himself on the right of midfield with Spaniard Jonathan Fernandez struggling at left wing until switched to his more favoured right wing berth.

On top of all this much was expected from new signing Lee Crooks but the former pro looked a little unfit and was removed from the action.

Guiseley face a tough challenge when they visit league leaders Witton Albion on Saturday followed by a trip to Leek on Tuesday.
