HANGING Heaton scored a thrilling two-wicket win at Hyde to reach the last eight of the Royal London ECB National Clubs Championship.

Skipper Gary Fellows made key contributions with bat and ball as his side triumphed in Cheshire to secure their quarter-final place.

Hyde, who had been 28-2 after David Stiff dismissed both openers, but they looked on for a good score when James Duffy was in aggressive mood, supported by George Balderson as the hosts reached 129-2 off 20 overs.

Duffy, who was out at that score, hit seven fours and five sixes in his 72, which only lasted 46 balls, and he added 101 for the third wicket before being trapped lbw by Fellows.

Balderson went soon after for a more sedate 23 and, despite a run-a-ball 55 from skipper Danny Berry (three fours, two sixes), wickets fell regularly as Hyde were dismissed for 214, with Fellows, who changed the complexion of the innings with 4-39, being well supported by Stiff (2-26) and Chris Goodair (2-30) gave good support as Hyde were bowled out for 214 four balls shy of their 40-over limit.

None of the bottom six reached double figures as the innings fell away from that earlier high point.

Hanging Heaton were given a perfect start to their reply, with Fellows and Richard Foster sharing an opening stand of 94.

Fellows was first to go for 46, made off 49 balls and including six fours and two sixes, but Foster, who was 43 not out when Fellows was dismissed, went on to make 74 from 67 balls, including three sixes and 11 fours, before being fifth out at 168.

Although Ismail Dawood went cheaply, Callum Geldart, Joe Fraser, James Keen, Imran Dawood and Stiff all made double figures as Hanging Heaton stayed ahead of the required run rate.

Spinner Daniel Cranmer (3-57) and Lewis Reed (2-15) kept Hyde in the hunt until No 10 Goodair edged to the boundary which sparked Hanging Heaton’s celebrations.

They finished on 217-8 off 37.3 overs in the 40 overs per side contest.

Meanwhile, Woodlands are through to the Solly Sports Crowther Cup final.

They beat Scholes by two runs in a truncated semi-final to earn the right to meet either New Farnley or Kirkburton, whose match has yet to be played, at Scholes (Bradford) on Bank Holiday Monday (August 28).

With rain threatening and Sunday's in short supply before the final, the umpires took the decision to reduce the game to 25 overs each in an attempt to ensure that the game was played to a finish.

Woodlands made 182-6, including an outstanding 50 from just 13 deliveries for Kieran Collins.

The hosts replied with 179-7.
