Ben Rhydding ready for big challenge
11:20am Thursday 19th April 2012 in Aire-Wharfe League
Jason Wright
Ben Rhydding are hoping to make an impact in Division One in 2012 after back-to-back promotions.
A strengthened Rhydding, who start at home to Otley on Saturday, will again be led by the experienced Nick Smith but have promoted overseas player Jason Wright to vice-captain.
Burley, third last season, have signed Ed Brown from neighbours Olicanian and have retained Daniel Mere-dith as their overseas player.
Guiseley, who were fourth just two points behind, have the difficult task of replacing 2011 record-breaking batsman Dean Russ.
However, they feel they have found a more than able candidate in 19-year-old top-order player Josh Nelson from Queensland.
Also joining Guiseley are David Whittaker from Green Lane – after a 20-year absence – and Daniel Temm from Halifax League side Warley.
Otley, who were fifth in 2011, have Josh Atkinson back from Pudsey Congs and have also recruited Daniel Gautrey from Colton.
Overseas player at Cross Green is 21-year-old all-rounder Andrew Ross from Melbourne, who replaces Nicholas Benton.
The big transfer of the winter was former Yorkshire and Somerset all-rounder Jeremy Batty’s switch from Rawdon, relegated from Division One, Rawdon to Ilkley, promoted from Division Three.
Green Lane, also relegated from the top flight, have overseas player Davin Charleston as captain. Rawdon have Joe Loorhams as their overseas star, and Ryan Gladwin has joined from Morley.
