BURLEY tore up the Waddilove Cup record book with a stunning 425-run win over Leeds Modernians.

Their total of 499-8 put the previous best in the 45-over competition – Otley’s 376, set in last year’s final against Tong Park Esholt – in the shade.

It even surpassed Kirkstall’s 457 achieved in a 50-over match.

And Ed Brown’s sensational 269 blitzed Andy Siddall’s 214 highest individual score, made in that Kirkstall innings.

Brown scored an astounding 228 in boundaries with 24 sixes and 21 fours and his runs came off just 119 balls.

Burley's innings featured 33 sixes and many of the shots flew out of the ground.

Brown shared in three century stands – 170 with Nicky Bulcock (49), 107 with Jason Wright (45) and 125 with Red Bolton, whose 70 came in 36 balls.

The bowling figures reflected the carnage Scott Harrison's two wickets cost him 108 runs in his nine overs and Jaran Cook's spell cost him 105 runs.

Little wonder that shell-shocked Modernians’ batting then collapsed, to 74 all out with James Frost (5-47) and Daniel Revis (3-4) joining in the fun.
