GIANT-KILLERS Tong Park Esholt pulled off another upset to secure a place in the final of the Waddilove Cup.

The Division Three side beat top-flight outfit North Leeds by 49 runs to set up a meeting with league champions Otley who beat Burley by six wickets, at Pool on August 7.

A devastating three-wicket over from Mahir Ali and some deadly bowling from veteran Mick Scott was at the heart of a sensational Tong Park Esholt display.

Ajantha Weerapuli (44) gave Park a solid start but Farhan Khan (6-44) prevented them from building a big innings.

A sparkling late cameo from Muhammad Khan, including three sixes in a quick-fire 37 and a stand of 49 for the ninth wicket with Will Murray, helped set a target of 154.

That didn’t look to be enough when North Leeds’ opening pair put on 41 but Scott (4-14) and Ali (4-27) started to make inroads and with the score on 57, Ali removed Rob Winter, Larry Audain and Amir Farook in a single over.

Scott nipped in to remove Dominic Cowley with only one more run added and even though George Wales (39no) did his best to salvage the innings, his partners at the other end kept disappearing and North Leeds were finally bowled out for 105.

A half-century from Ed Brown was the highlight of Burley’s 208 total which always appeared to be too low to trouble the league leaders who were appearing in their 30th semi-final.

Ben Morley (47) and David Hester (51) got the board ticking over for Otley and even though Burley hopes were raised when they removed Hester and James Davies (24) in consecutive balls at 145, Chris Thompson (46no) and Josh Atkinson (19no) provided a steady hand and a six from Thompson earned Otley their record-equalling 20th final.
