BURLEY have a habit of reserving some of their best performances for the Waddilove Cup and they did it again on Sunday as they knocked Division One leaders Beckwithshaw out of the competition.

The nine-times winners recovered from a shaky start to win by the comfortable margin of 74 runs.

Burley, whose recent league form has been inconsistent, were struggling at 60-6 when Richard Brook (68) and Jason Wright (56) transformed their innings with a partnership of 128 which enabled them to post a score of 195-9.

Beckwithshaw were bowled out for 121 as James Frost (4-26) and Wright (3-34) joined forces to seal Burley's place in the quarter-finals.

They will be away to Ben Rhydding who made the most of being reinstated after their first-round conquerors Alwoodley were disqualified for fielding an ineligible player, with a five-wicket win over Olicanian.

Skipper Harry Smallwood (75) helped Olicanian to a total of 204 but Ben Rhydding eased to victory with Matt Proudman (72), Charlie Swallow (48no) and Forrest Hamilton (33) seeing them home to a five-wicket victory.

Holders Otley had a comfortable 130-run over Adel. David Hester (54) top scored in their 255 before Ben Morley (3-26) started the visitors’ downfall and Jamie Pickering finished them off with a 3-2 spell.

Division Two leaders Horsforth beat Addingham by 135 runs. Ollie Hardaker (66) and Mahir Ali (64) helped their side to recover from 52-4 to make 236. Gareth Lee took 5-20 as Addingham were bowled out for 101.
