Pool cricketer Tom Lester, who also plays friendlies for the Hawks, has been selected to play for the British Army on their two-week tour of St Lucia at the end of the month.

The 17-year-old, whose mum Sally lives at Apperley Bridge and dad ‘Ted’ lives at Yeadon, undertook his basic training at Harrogate Army Foundation College and is now studying aircraft avionics at Wokingham, near Reading.

Tom is an early-order left-hand batsman and wicket-keeper who played for his Corps last season when they won the Army Cup.

He started his career at Guiseley Cricket Club before moving to Pool, where his half-brother Sam Wilkinson cap-tains the first team, but he has been playing with the Hawks since the age of seven.

Tom has won the Hawks’ young player of the year award four times, the fielding trophy four times, the bowling cup twice and the outstanding performance trophy once (for his 133 against Headingley in 2012).

The Hawks have confirmed their fixtures for this summer, starting on Saturday, April 12 at Ilkley CC and finishing on Saturday, October 5 at Arthington CC.

There are 25 other fixtures ahead of an 11-day tour to South Africa next February, which includes four matches.
