Burley have the power to prevent this season’s Aire-Wharfe League championship from becoming a procession when they take on runaway leaders Beckwithshaw on Saturday.

A fifth straight win will haul Burley to within two points of the leaders but defeat would see the gap at the top extend to 14 points, and with the next three clubs – Pool, Steeton and Collingham – already 16 points off the pace, it would be hard to see how Beckwithshaw could be stopped.

There is no doubting the quality in the Beckwithshaw line-up but Burley, with Nick and David Brook, Neil Davies, Shane Etherington and Charlie Davy in consistent form, could just have the edge in what should be a titanic struggle.

With defeat by Harden and only two points at Bilton, Steeton have hit a sticky patch after a bright start but could end that against an Otley side that have performed badly away from home this season.

Ben Rhydding have also struggled on their travels and will need to improve if they are to win at Pool, who have more than held their own since promotion.

Guiseley should be too strong for Bilton, while, having worked their way out of the bottom two, Harden will look to build on that when they entertain a Collingham side that has only shown glimpses of the form that made them champions last year.

Thackley have the confidence of two solid wins behind them as they tackle Knaresborough, who have opened up an 11-point advantage at the top of Division Two.

Tong Park Esholt, the only side to take points off Knaresborough so far, will also be looking for a third successive victory when they travel to Rawdon, who are without a win in their last three.

Green Lane face a double header against Colton, entertaining them in the league on Saturday and the second round of the Waddilove Cup on Sunday.

Ilkley travel to second-placed Adel, needing points to stay above the dogfight at the bottom, which could be fierce at Bolton Villas, who will be looking to escape from the bottom two against Bardsey, the team just above them.

Calverley’s search for a way to turn round a bitterly disappointing season that has produced a single point so far sees them take on third-placed North Leeds.

Having been knocked off top spot in Division Three by Horsforth last week, Skipton take on their rivals’ neighbours Hall Park in what should be a much more comfortable task.

Horsforth, who are on top courtesy of winning more matches than Skipton, will be favourites to hold on to that spot against Menston, whose points have mainly come from sides below them.

With Johnny Johnson in impressive form, third-placed Addingham should prove too strong for Upper Wharfedale, while bowler Ed Broadley could hold the key for Olicanian as they play hosts to Woodhouse.

Without a victory since winning the first two games of the season, Silsden will do well to take anything off New Rover, who have bounced back to their high-scoring best after a blip that saw them lose at the bottom of the table.

As well as Green Lane’s clash with Colton, the Waddilove Cup draw has thrown up a mouth-watering tie between eight-times winners Burley and last year’s runners-up Ben Rhydding.

Ilkley entertain Otley, Thackley travel to Steeton and Rawdon are at Pool, while Skipton have the chance of pulling off a major upset when they host Division One strugglers Follifoot.
