Stephen aims to lap up more karting glory

GUISELEY teenager Stephen Tyldsley is
aiming to make a big name for himself in the highly-competitive world of go-kart racing.
Many top Formula One drivers such as Lewis Hamilton cut their racing teeth in karting and the 19-year-old trainee joiner has already had some impressive results.
His ultimate aim isn't Formula One but to race in British Touring car events.
Stephen, who started karting in early 2000 as a novice in non MSA Club events, has steadily worked his way through the ranks.
He was soon winning races and even though still a novice he revealed his potential for moving up to a much higher level.
The three times British and European Champion Mike Simpson also recognised his potential at an early stage.
He took Stephen under his wing and has since provided him with a great deal of support and advice.
In the last two years Stephen has gained fourth and third places in the British Kart Masters Competition.
He has also gained a second and joint first placing at the P.F. International Kart Circuit - the largest karting club in England.
His best achievement was winning the British and European Karting Champion-ship in Belgium this year, against 68 world-class drivers.
Next year he is racing in the British and European Karting Championships again and will also be competing in the highly-competitive Mini Challenge. This is run over ten rounds in the UK and Europe.
Stephen's reason for moving into Minis is to help him towards his ultimate aim goal of racing in the British Touring Cars events. These are televised and attract a great deal of media attention.
Stephen works for his father's firm Wharfedale Fitted Furniture and is able to arrange his work around his racing engagements.
It certainly helps having dad Dave travelling everywhere with him as mechanic.
"Stephen has done extremely well but we are aiming higher in 2008. We believe he can win the top honours.
"There is tremendous interest in karting these days and it is attracting more media coverage and sponsorship."
Stephen is currently seeking sponsors who might be interested in promoting their business by advertising on Stephen's car, web site, display stands and awning.
They would also receive hospitality watching the action at the top race circuits such as Brands Hatch and Donnington during the season.
