Lambert's six wickets keep Yeadon from drop zone
 |
| Yeadon bowler Greg Lambert |
Greg Lambert continued his dominating bowling form, as Yeadon heaped more misery on struggling Brighouse.
Lambert took six for 28 in a fantastic spell of bowling as Brighouse crumbled to 47 all out. Times are defiantly hard for Brighouse, as they have yet to win a match this season.
To make matters worse, the club have found it difficult to field 11 players each week, and Sunday was no different.
Lambert's fellow opening bowler, Shahzada Khan, also seemed to find a bit of form after a few indifferent weeks. His figures of two for 11 off ten over's will certainly increase his confidence. Khan also bowled four maidens in a disciplined performance.
Yeadon reached their target in just short of ten overs. The new opening batting partnership of Andrew Robertson (28) and Jon Henry (13) shared a stand of 50 as Yeadon reached their target without the loss of a wicket.
The 15 points gained sees Yeadon pull 19 points clear of the relegation zone. For Brighouse, relegation seems almost a certainty.
The comprehensive victory will also help the Yeadon team's morale after two defeats last week.
Lambert's form has been a major factor in why Yeadon aren't in the relegation zone. Since the start of the season his experience and class have shone through.
Sundays six for' was Lambert's third five wicket haul of the season. Yeadon will be looking for more of the same from the ex-Yorkshire and East Bierley man, as they look to maintain First Division status for next season.
Sunday's win came 24 hours after the game against Pudsey Congs was cancelled due to poor weather. However, Yeadon will entertain Congs in the Priestley Cup on Sunday after entertaining Baildon in the league on Saturday.
After defeats against all of the top teams, Yeadon will be hoping that the cup competition will see a change in fortunes.
Like their first XI, Yeadon's second team game against Pudsey Congs was cancelled. They were however able to play on Sunday away at Lightcliffe. Batting first, Yeadon captain Andrew Pickering scored a sparkling century at the top of the innings.
Top scoring with, 121 not out, Pickering's innings included 19 boundaries. He was also backed up by middle order batsman Ben Galley who scored a quick fire 65.
Pickering's knock was invaluable as his young side scored 243 for six. Within the starting eleven five of the players were juniors.
Lightcliffe battled hard with middle order batsman Andy Pullan scoring 91. However the experienced opening bowling attack of Nick Darfield (four for 64) and Richard Wood (three for 51) contributed to Lightcliffe's downfall.
Eventually all out for 232, Yeadon took 20 points away from the match and jump to seventh in the table.
For the other local clubs, Esholt became another name on Cleckheaton's ever growing victim list.
After victory last week over Yeadon, the Moorenders made it seven out of the last seven with a six wicket win.
Esholt's low total of 152-8 was chased down in some fashion with Mohhamad Zaman finishing on 93 no. Together with Neil Nicholson (47no) the pair put on a fifth wicket stand of 117 to see Cleckheaton home.
Ben Lister's three for 28 did seem to put Cleckheaton in some early trouble, however the ever confidant side managed to turn fortunes around.
Esholt seconds lost their second game of the season after a five wicket defeat to Keighley. Bowled out for a lowly 127, Keighley managed to reach their total with the loss of five wickets. Micheal Kelsey 4-32 was the pick of the bowlers, but Paul Wilkinson's 53no was enough to see Keighley turn out as winners.
Saturday sees Esholt first and seconds face Hanging Heaton in the league.
