Water, water everywhere for lords of The Manor

If you don’t like water on a golf course, or find it intimidating, then steer clear of The Manor.

On the other hand, for most golfers, water hazards add something special to a course – just think of The Belfry or Augusta – and with no less than six lakes dotted around this course, The Manor is definitely a daunting challenge.

The Manor was born when a local farming family decided to turn their land at Drighlington, just off the M62, into a golf course.

They were determined to avoid half measures, and the result is a challenging course which is proving a real draw on the golfing circuit.

The six lakes have obviously made its name, but the Manor is fully-equipped as a golfing centre.

It has a 20-bay floodlit golf range and a clubhouse, pictured right, which has conference facilities, a 140-seat restaurant, two bars and capability to hold wedding receptions.

As well as the challenging golf course itself, The Manor has a six-hole par three course, ideal for beginners and open to the general public at just £3.70 per round, plus an extra £1 to go round twice or another £1 if you want to make it a full 18.

The greens on the par three course are well protected and tricky – it’s so much more than a pitch and putt.

The main course is kept to a very high standard, with those six lakes to catch you out. The fairways in the main are quite generous and the greens are big but undulating to provide a test of putting skills for all abilities.
