For the first time ever a local runner has won Otley AC’s major event of the year, the 10-mile road race.

Matt John completed the course in 56:00, with Kevin Ogden (Spenborough) second in 56:40 and Peter Branney (Leeds City) third in 56:45.

Pauline Munro was first lady in 65:23, with Treena Johnson (Dewsbury) second in 68:07 and Andrea Dennison (Bingley) in 69:10.

There were also new records for Aileen Baldwin (Stainland Lions) and Fred Gibbs (Bingley) in the ladies’ vets 60 and men’s vets 70 categories respectively.

For Otley, Rogan Ashton was 12th (62:28), Leon Ricketts 39th (66:52), John Armitstead 67th (70:10), Tom Potter 76th (70:46) and second claim member Suzy Sharman 77th (70:48).

Richard Smith was 78th (70:49), Simon Toyne 81st (71:14), Matt Podd 110th (74:03), Sharron Smith 119th and first local lady (75:42), Billy Rayner 198th (83:20), Nikki Scott 210th (84:57), Carol Armitstead 214th (85:11), Jane Butler 219th (85:30), Sara Richard 233rd (88:20) and Hannah Mallin- son 294th (101:57).

Chris Dove was first home for Skyrac in 66:16, with sub-70 minute finishes also for Frank Glass in 67:58 and Andy McCue in 69:19.

Rebecca Cesar De Sa was sixth overall lady to finish, winning an M&S voucher for her time of 70:40.

Otley 10-mile first-timers Nuno Cesar De Sa and Joanne Thomp- son performed well with finishes of 71:20 and 73:50 respectively.

There were also spirited runs from Geoffrey Baggaley (71:55), Alan Bye (81:53 and second in the male veteran 65 category), Deborah Holmes (84:15) and Roger Dawson (123:11).

The Ilkley ladies, Sally Malir, Kate Archer and Sue Bickerdike won the team prize.

Ilkley’s men were fourth with Nick Richardson, David West- head, Henry Heavisides and Rob Cunningham all in the top 50.

Airecentre Pacers had a good representation in the race. Paul Grindley had another good run coming 63rd in a time of 69.40.

Jenny Beaumont was well up amongst the ladies after making a swift start and finished 115th in 75.04.

Gavin Watmuff had a very solid performance to come 136th in 77.50.

Chris Garnett followed in 85.21 (218th) with Rhona Neilson in 86.45 (225th) just behind. Belinda Swain (250th) in 91.27 and Amanda Connolly (281st) in 97.40 completed the Pacers’ team.
