Otley cyclist Lizzie Armitstead is in stunning form as she builds up for the London Olympics.

The talented 23-year-old won the first-ever Gent-Wevelgem road race in Belgium on Sunday with a strong solo ride.

It was her second victory of the year following her recent success in the glory in the Omloop van het Hageland – Tielt-Winge in Belgium earlier in the month.

Armitstead, who now rides for the Dutch outfit Team AA Drink/leontien.nl, is looking determined to prove she is Britain’s number one women’s road racer.

Her recent victories add strength to her bid to be the team’s lead rider ahead of reigning Olympic champion Nicole Cooke.

Their rivalry bubbled to the surface after last year’s 2011 Road World Championships in Copenhagen, when leader Armitstead was held up by a crash and Cooke went on to try to win alone.
