The weekend’s snowy weather seemed to bring the best out of Otley’s Matt John who won races on both days.

On Saturday he was first over the line in the Leeds Park Run 5km in 16:02, a personal best, while team-mate Matt Broughton was 20th in 19:32, another personal best.

First lady with a personal best was Rachel Pilling (Kirkstall Harriers) in 20:21.

The next day Matt John lined up with nearly 180 other runners for the annual St Wilfred’s School Muddy Boots 10k, in Ripon, completing the multi-terrain race in 36:00.

In the Roundhay Park Run 5km, Howard Jeffrey dipped under 20 minutes finishing 12th in 19:58, to record a personal best.

The race was won in 17:36 by Jeremy Ladyman (Valley Striders), and first lady with a personal best was Julie Leventon (Trafford AC) in 18:47.

Howard was also present at the Meltham 10k, on Sunday, finishing 82nd in 45:35. The race was won by Dave Watson (Holmfirth) in 34:43 and the first lady in 23rd position was Amy Green (Keighley & Craven) in 40:14.

Meanwhile, Nick Hodgkinson has taken part in the Dubai Marathon, with his second claim club Riyadh Road Runners, finishing in 4:23:46.

He said: “The flat and potentially fast course started downtown outside the Burj Khalifa and followed the Corniche Road past Jumeirah Beach towards the Burj al Arab, before turning round and returning by the same route.

“My target had been to finish under four hours, but after halfway I began to slow.

“My lack of training was severely exposed in the last few miles and I only managed to keep running because I knew that other club members were behind me and closing fast.”
