Otley’s Liam Dunne missed out on the top spot in the Cop Hill Fell Race at Meltham on Sunday by just over a minute but he didn’t come away empty handed after taking the MV35 prize.
The seven-mile race has 900ft of ascent and Liam recorded a time of 39:34.
The winner was Dave Watson (Holmfirth Harriers) who finished in 38:23. Third-placed Paul Stevenson (Pudsey & Bramley) followed Dunne to the line in 39:45. The first lady was Katie Walshaw (Holmfirth Harriers) in 41:33.
Dunne said: “It was a two-lap course and judging by the times it seemed a little shorter than advertised.
“It was mostly grassy and road climbs before a few fast, steep and boggy descents. I must admit that initially I was pretty pleased with the prize, but then it just made me realise I’m hitting that age category thing, although I suppose if I’m getting better with age it can’t be too bad.”
