HAWORTH trials rider Dan Clark rode his 200c Triumph Tiger Cub machine through every section in the Edinburgh Motor Club's annual international two-day Pre-65 trial near Kinlochleven without incurring a single penalty – but didn't win the event.

Birstall's Dan Thorpe was also faultless but suffered the same fate as the organisers awarded first place to Kinlochleven's Gary MacDonald.

The Scottish rider also had no penalties and he took the top spot when the organisers decided the winner would be the rider of the largest engine machine.

MacDonald just happened to be riding a twin cylinder Triumph machine.

Thorpe and Clark were riding identical machines. Previous winner James Noble got his Ariel machine round in ninth position.

The Fewston electrician incurred just nine penalties. Forty competitors from the field of 200 retired from the trial.

The final retiree had 198 penalties on his card when he called it a day.
