SCOTT Harrington battled hard at the infamously difficult Snowdonia Mountain Marathon to finish a respectable eighth place.

Harrington led an elite group of three up the Pen Y Pass and was still ahead at the halfway mark before being passed by eventual winner Daniel Jones who finished in an exceptional time of 2:36:54.

With more than half of the 3,000ft of climbing coming in the second half of the race, it was always going to be a struggle to hang on with tired legs but Harrington dug deep to finish in 2:50:03, a great time in a race described as the ‘toughest road race in Britain’.

Club stalwart Sara Elliott ran a great race at the Bradford 10k to finish on the podium as third lady from a field of 169 in a time of 46:16.

Mohammad Abubaker also had a successful race clocking a personal best on the tough circuit finishing in 20th place overall in 42:12.

The race was won by Craig Shearer of Barlick FR in a time of 34:18 in a total field of 416.

Otley's Michael Hastings and Ian Broadbent had finishing times of 1hr 33min and 1hr 50min for the half marathon respectively.

Otley fell captain Tom Lynch dragged Steve Robinson out for the Really Wild Boar Fell race near Sedbergh.

The 5.5 mile race took in over 2,000ft of elevation and Lynch finished in a commendable time of 51:34

Otley had a good showing in the second race of the West Yorkshire Cross Country Series and came back with some good results, especially in the women’s run where Vicky Stainburn finished in 24th place only a few minutes behind eventual winner Georgia Malir.

A minute further back in 40th place was Laura McCabe on what was an impressive weekend overall for Otley AC’s women.

In the men’s race, Colin Best led the team home in 42:14 followed closely by John Davis, Andrew Rayner and Antonio Cardinale.
